This sort of is beneath me, but I think this is a serious social problem (or something).
When I was dating a guy some years ago his mother and grandmother once asked me what was for dinner. I said chicken and they continued with exclaiming that I can’t cook it from frozen state.
‘Why not?’ I asked.
‘Because it’s really dangerous!’
They couldn’t answer that, but apparently it was okay to eat chicken if you thaw it before cooking it. Made no sense to me, so I never cared about their directions. After some googling today I see that more people have this belief. Some say that they have heard there is some sort of poisonous gas which is released from frozen chicken in the oven (what?!). I decided to get to the bottom of it.
Will it kill you? Is it really dangerous?
Here is why:
Why would it? The idea that it would is… wait for it… stupid! That is, as long as the chicken is cooked through there is no issue.
Though, just to ease your fear the United States Department of Agriculture says this, and I quote:
Do not cook frozen chicken in a slow cooker or in the microwave; thaw it before cooking. However, chicken can be cooked from the frozen state in the oven or on the stove. The cooking time may be about 50 percent longer.
See? No danger. Now get going!
